Writing EBooks For Profit – A $1.5 Bn Industry

There have been at least $1.5bn in eBook sales through ClickBank alone (the worlds largest ebook retailer). So why are eBooks so popular among buyers and profitable for authors? And how can you make money from this lucrative business? Lets start with the first question, which is actually quite simple to answer.

There are several key areas which have contributed to the insane success of the eBook business model:

1) The most profitable eBooks are normally ‘how to’ eBooks. These eBooks are written and sold to solve a problem, and unlike traditional books and other products, these eBooks usually make the most tempting claims and promises, while profiting from the desperation of their buyers. There’s a good reason why eBooks on topics such as ‘weight loss’ and ‘make money online’ do so well, not only are people desperate for these things, but there are and will always be people who want to lose weight and make money.

2) eBooks are typically heavily marketed and hyped to prospective buyers. Unlike a traditional book sale which involves the customer simply browsing a selection of books in a book store, a buyer for an eBook usually takes the following path:

A search on Google for more information on a problem topic > a clickthrough to an affiliate landing page where the authors eBook is endorsed and recommended > a further clickthrough to the authors actual website where the eBook is on sale. Here the visitor is hit with more numerous sales tactics.

As a result of the heavy marketing and hype, visitors are far more likely to be willing to pay for an eBook which appears to be the answer to their particular problem. This is why many people are prepared to pay up to $100 for a single download of an eBook, and since this is almost 100% profit for the author, you can see why eBook authors (like myself) can make a lot of money.

3) eBooks are delivered instantly through the form of a download. What’s more attractive than offering an effective and easy solution to a problem? Offering that solution instantly. To a potential buyer, knowing that their solution lies only a credit card submit away is tempting enough for them to do just that.
